YOUR HOME FOR SAFE TRUTHFUL, JOYFUL, ACTING - “An ounce of behaviour is worth a pound of words

CLASS GOALS

The goal of this technique is to provide actor training that gives you the best tools and support to help you realize your dreams and to create a family of fellow seekers of truth.

Sanford Meisner and the other great acting teachers of the 20th century pointed us in the right direction and took us on the first steps towards truthful heartfelt acting. This is our opportunity to carry their tradition forward, to refine and advance it.

These techniques will serve as the foundation for your career as an actor and an artist:

  • Learn what it means to live moment to moment, working off of your partner allowing each moment to be spontaneous and authentic to the truth of the scene.

  • Trust your point of view and exercise your impulses to develop strong and instinctive choices.

  • Work on being a penetrable actor, one that allows each and every moment from your partner or activities to “do you.”

  • Create a strong inner emotional life with the ability to simply “give over” to the given circumstances of any scene or situation.

Step By Step

Meisner believed that acting should be taught like other artistic disciplines - one step at a time. Meisner developed a series of exercises that helped his students build a solid foundation of acting skills and build the actors confidence as they master each step in the training beginning with:

RELAXATION

A willingness to FAIL

Meisner Technique requires you to bring your full least defensive self to the exercise.

CONCENTRATION

A CURIOUS mind and heart.

The exercises implemented imbue you with the tools to decode and understand behavior on a granular level: the core of acting.

AUTHENTICITY

A choice to TRUST

The need to understand what it means to trust yourself, your partner, and your coach.

MARQUELLE YOUNG

Marquelle Young began her journey impacting audiences as an Oratorical State and National Speech Champion before the age of 12. It was then that she also found her joy for theatre and dance, and made her theatrical debut at Atlanta’s historic Fox Theatre. From then on she continued performing in professional theatre productions and working with the likes of Kenny Leon, Patdro Harris, and Tyler Perry. She has studied in LA and New York and is a graduate of the New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts, where she met and studied Meisner under Larry Moss’s tutelage: Steve Perlmutter. This is where her true passion for the Meisner technique was born.

After graduating, she continued to study Meisner and incorporated some of Sandy’s techniques into her own adult acting classes. She noticed the profound impact it had on her students and decided to make it official. Under the guide of Scott Trost, Executive Director at the Meisner Institute, Marquelle received her training as an official Meisner Institute Certified Meisner Coach.

With a true passion for all aspects of the arts, she has become an award winning director, producer, and actress. Including projects such as BET’s American Soul, Verizon, Lego, Google, Capitol Records, LifeTime, Cosmopolitan, and Hulu to name a few.

Over the years her students have including actors, but also doctors, authors, even a Rabbi. For Marquelle, this Meisner work is not just a technique for acting, it’s a way of life. A way to begin trusting yourself and your instincts as an artist and even beyond this creative industry. Contrary to many, Meisner’s work is not about breaking or tearing down an actor, it’s about finding the simplest way to the truth. She believes this step by step work can heal, can uplift, and awaken a person through the exercises, creating a space for you to live truthfully. Her goal is to educate and empower the next generation of talented creatives to help change the world through the arts.

  • "Marquelle is extremely knowledgeable, and made this work deep and engaging. She "held space" in the more emotionally challenging moments. She also created a fun and easy atmosphere where everyone is encouraged to make mistakes and truly grow. Fantastic teacher, I've been changed!"

  • "Marquelle Young is a brilliant coach and tutor in bringing out the best in her students while instilling a sense of safety and respect. She meets each attending artist at their level and holds space for them to push past their then existing limits. Marquelle is a wealth of knowledge and experience and a fun and engaging personality. Do yourself a favor and sign up for her next class."

    Emma St. Kathryn

  • "You get better without even realizing it! People who saw you act before and after make it point to come tell you how much better you've gotten."

    -Hunter Showalter

  • "Marquelle is an absolute energetic delight, and steeped in knowledge of the Meisner technique! I am happy to have learned her emphasis on empathy within this technique, as initially I was nervous about potentially getting hurt or hurting others emotionally. She gives such helpful feedback and tailored direction based on how we are uniquely responding to each exercise. Her energy and enthusiasm is contagious. This class is absolutely life changing."

    Ryll Mathews

  • "Loved every second of this class! A profound experience, one of the most interesting classes I've taken, and Marquelle is honestly brilliant, compassionate, and one the most encouraging teachers I've come across."

Begin with this conscious technique to tap into an unconscious place.

The kind of acting that can’t be explained.

It all begins with you.

Whatever it is, give over to that thing calling inside you.

One step,

One class,

Can make all the difference.
